How should I brush my teeth during Orthodontic Treatment?

When you have braces, it's important to brush your teeth thoroughly after every meal. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and angle it towards the gum line, brushing gently in small circular motions. Be sure to clean around the brackets and wires, taking extra care to remove any food particles.

Can I still use dental floss with braces?

Yes, you can and should still floss your teeth during orthodontic treatment. Use a floss threader or a special orthodontic floss to get under the wires and between the teeth. Flossing helps remove plaque and food debris that can accumulate around the braces and gums.

Are there any special oral hygiene products I should use with braces?

While you can use regular toothpaste and mouthwash, some orthodontic-specific products may be helpful. Consider using an interdental brush to clean between brackets and wires, as well as fluoride mouthwash to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities.

How often should I visit the dentist while wearing braces?

It's important to maintain regular dental check-ups every six months, even with braces. Your dentist will monitor your oral health, clean your teeth, and check for any issues like cavities or gum disease. They can also provide guidance on proper oral hygiene with braces.

What should I do if I experience discomfort or pain while wearing braces?

It's common to experience some discomfort, especially after adjustments. You can try using orthodontic wax to alleviate irritation from brackets or wires rubbing against the inside of your mouth. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also help manage any soreness. If you have persistent pain or other concerns, don't hesitate to contact your orthodontist for advice.
